Design is way different from art. Art must be contemplated, design must be used.

It does not stop being art while being used. It amplifies the art.
Yes they can be opposite each-other, but they can also mesh together in a perfect Yin and Yang.
It depends on whether you choose to think about it with 1 side of the brain or the other.
Or to use both sides and contemplate the artistry of good design, so you can design things of beauty.
